Kaiserwerk , Austria

Kaiserwerke GmbH

Equipped with three Voith impulse turbines since 1922, the Kaiserwerk hydropower plant is located near Kufstein, Tyrol, and utilizes the 325 m head between the natural Hintersteiner Lake reservoir in the foothills of the Wilder Kaiser Mountain Range and the river Weissach.

Following rehabilitation of the hydraulic conduit system and replacement of the penstock in 1985, Voith Siemens Hydro received a contract for a completely new two-jet impulse turbine, with spherical valve and digital governor, including a storage management program and an automatic start-up and shut-down system, in 1994. Since September 1995 this turbine replaces the three former units. Additionally, the contract included a second digital governor and the automation of unit 2, which is being kept as a standby unit.
