Sidan, Austria

Tiroler Wasserkraftwerke AG
(Tyrolean Hydro Power Station AG)

The Sidan hydropower plant is located north-west of Zell on the river Ziller. A reservoir measuring approximately 5,000 m³ had been created at an elevation of 1,370 m above see level. The water from the Sidan and two smaller streams flows into the reservoir. An approximately 2,170 m-long, 600/500 mm diameter penstock runs to the powerhouse from the surge chamber.

A two-jet horizontal impulse turbine driving a three-phase synchronous generator is installed in the powerhouse. The turbine impeller is coupled directly to the flanged shaft of the generator.

The Sidan power plant supplies an average of around 25 GWh per year to the Tyrolean state grid.
