| After Asia, South America is the continent with the greatest amount of current activity in the field of dams and hydropower development. Brazil, for example, is the world’s largest electricity market with a total primary energy consumption twice as large as Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay combined.
At present, only 16 % of the existing hydropower potential is used in South America. Voith Siemens Hydro has installed approximately 1,500 units with a total output of around
70,000 GW. Voith Siemens Hydro’s location in São Paulo, which supports the entire South American market, has so far participated in projects with a total installed capacity of more than 27,000 MW. |
